Spring comes a little later in the mountains. Why? Because we save the best for last! Seriously, if you’ve never experienced spring or summer in Summit County, you’re missing out. There’s an old saying among the locals here:
“I moved here for the winters but stayed for the summers.”
Perfect temperatures. Wildflowers in bloom. Hiking, biking, golf, fishing, boating on Dillon Reservoir … the list goes on and on. So, we’ve narrowed our “top tips” list for spring and summer in Summit County down to three … for now!
Tip #1: The Grass is Always Greener at Breckenridge Golf Club
Did you know that the Breckenridge Golf Club is the only public 27-hole, Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course in the world? You’ll find 27 holes between the Elk, Bear, and Beaver courses at Breckenridge Golf Club. All three are Jack Nicklaus signature courses and have absolutely stunning views of the Tenmile range. Regardless of any combination of the three, be prepared for a challenging round of mountain golf. Another thing you certainly can expect golfing these holes is wildlife: local red fox, beaver, deer, elk, moose — and sometimes even a bear!
Local tip: Schedule your tee time before 10 a.m. to avoid afternoon showers.
Tip #2: Frisco BBQ Challenge June 15-17
The Colorado BBQ Challenge is Frisco's biggest event of the year and a great way to kick off the summer. This year is the 21st anniversary of the Colorado BBQ Challenge in Frisco. Approximately 70 BBQers will compete in a wide range of categories including pork, ribs, chicken, brisket, anything goes, barbecue sauce, side dish, salsa and dessert. Other BBQ activities include chef demonstrations, pig races, a whiskey tour and a variety of musical entertainment. Click here to see the full Frisco BBQ schedule
Local tip: Lodging fills up quickly on BBQ weekend, so plan ahead and book your stay in a great Frisco home or condo now!
